"Even if you are at the ends of the earth, the Lord your God will come and rescue you." Deuteronomy 30:4

I remember prom my senior year. A female friend of mine asked some guy to be her date, and his response was, "I want to keep my options open."
Options are a funny thing. Having a lot of them can be beneficial or a pain in the ass. Same with having only a few. Americans thrive on having options...we can order food precisely the way we want it, attend any of thousands of colleges, choose from 8 different styles of jeans, etc. We don't want to feel limited, and having options helps us feel important.
For example, Americans are controlled by the dollar because money is power, right? All money does is buy options. The more money you have the more options you have.
Who do Americans think is more important, the man who must take out a loan from the bank to purchase a used Accord, or the man who can buy a Porsche with cash? Duh. The man who can buy the Porsche has options. He can buy the Porsche. He can buy the Accord. He can buy a new Accord. He can buy 3, 4, or 5 used Accords. He can buy a Hummer and the Accord. Instead of the Porsche, he can buy a boat. He can buy a small house. He can buy a few acres of land. He has options, people, options.
Thankfully for me, I don't think having limitless options makes one important. And thankfully for all of us, it's our relationship with Christ that provides purpose and, therefore, importance. It's my prayer that you too will stray from the American way and begin to understand your importance within the Kingdom of God.
